  1. I thought the neuroscience speaker was very interesting. I went into the meeting not really knowing what to expect but I am defiantly glad I went. He was very informing about the process of becoming what he is today and what all is expected to come if you want to get your PHD. His research he shared was very cool. I actually did not get bored by it. I was really into what he was saying, even though not all of it made sense to me. I was very shocked to find out that people actually do what we learn in science about basic research and they apply it to their job. I was so fascinated how research is done to help save animals and humans. I am defiantly interested in going to another meeting.

  2. I think that the neuroscience meeting was interesting and very educational. The speaker was enthusiastic and kept the whole crowd interested and made a few jokes here and there. He was very interested in what the audience had to ask and answered each question thoroughly. The whole thing was very put together and you can tell the speaker spent a lot of time practicing the presentation. The only complaint I have is the get-to-know everyone at the end. It should have been in the beginning of the meeting and should have made the meeting earlier so we did not have to leave late. Other than that, the whole thing was very well and I am looking forward to the next meeting.

  5. I have never been to UT Southwestern before. It was a great experience to learn about something new. I enjoyed the topic that the neuroscience researcher talked about with our class. By hearing about his job it makes me want to pursue a career in the medical field. I am looking forward to going back next month to see what else they have to teach us! The discussion was organized and entertaining at the same time. I would have liked to do the "Meet and Greet" activity at the beginning because it seemed to be rushed at the end. Other than that I had a great time at UT SW.

  7. To be honest, before going to the meeting, I thought I wouldn't be able to understand a thing. But, actually I understood everything. The speaker was a very good speaker and took the time to break things down for us while making it really interesting. I actually found his research really cool, and also learned that it takes years worth of work to get your PhD, which was good to hear considering so many of us were high school seniors.

  8. I learned a lot by going to this meeting! The speaker did really well by making his research understandable for high school students and making it interesting. To be honest, I thought that the meeting was going to be really boring and confusing, but I understood everything pretty well and the speaker kept my attention the whole time. This meeting opened my eyes about how difficult but rewarding it is to try and pursue a PhD. I definitely plan on going to the next meeting and hopefully I will learn the same, if not more, amount of information that I learned in this one.

  10. Going into this meeting, I had no idea what neuroscience was and thought I wasn’t sure if I would understand any of the vocabulary. The speaker did an amazing job on keeping it simple and humorous at the same time. Although there were some things that were hard to comprehend, he backed it up with detailed pictures and humor to keep it interesting. For example, while he was talking about the dissections of the fruit fly he backed it up with the life cycle of the fruit fly. He thoroughly explained the life of the fruit fly and even described how he dissected such a small thing. Overall this meeting was well planned out and very interesting.

  11. I thought the presentation was really interesting! I love how he was trying to interact with us, to make it seem more interesting. I never knew there was such a thing called Neuroscience, so it helped me understand it a little better. Also, he was really into his field of study, which made it a whole lot better. I found it really cool when he talked about his long period of studies for the fruit fly, and found it intriguing how he could dissect something so little. I found him really interesting, and had a lot of fun!

  12. This was my first time to ever attend one of these events at UT Southwestern, and I was very impressed. I thought the information that was presented was done so very professionally and was simplified enough to where everyone in the room was able to understand and learn about the topic. I enjoyed learning about the process of graduate school and what it takes in order to obtain a degree; it was very useful information. I also liked how he explained his current experiments and provided pictures and graphs that helped the audience grasp and idea of what he does on a daily basis. The speaker made the topic interesting because he was so passionate about the work he does, which in turn, made me want to learn more about it. I look forward to attending more of the events and cant wait to hear about new topics.

  13. UT Southwestern was a great way to learn about neuroscience. The most intriguing topic I remember was about reconnecting muscle and nerves and that they don’t all connect the same as they were before they got damaged. I was really surprised I knew what he was talking about and that I understood most of it. Another thing I thought was great about the meeting was the “get to know each other” activity. I am excited about going to more of these meetings.

  14. I actually really enjoyed the UT Southwestern presentation. I actually found it fascinating that it was possible to reconnect nerves and it is interesting to think of how his research could evolve in the future. I absolutely loved watching the presenter talk about his research because you could see how much he cared anout it and loved it. I plan on going to all of these meetings this year and I can't wait.

  15. I thought my experience at UT Southwestern was very interesting and informal. The neuroscience speaker did a great job to describe his profession and what it entails. His career sounded very interesting because it is relatively new and can lead to many discoveries as he mentioned. The most interesting part about his lecture was when he was describing how he may soon be able to reconnect nerves. I thought the overall experience was very fascinating and would like to go back next month.

  16. I enjoyed this meeting at UT Southwestern. The speaker was very informative and he seemed to be very knowledgeable about the subject. His presentation was interesting and his experience on achieving a PhD. I thought that after he had been in school for so long that we would be successful right after he graduated, however the process is loner than expected. The speaker attempted to be very interactive and made very complex science into decently simple terms. I thought it was very interesting how he was describing how he could possibly one day re attach nerves from severed limbs. The meeting was overall fun and interesting and I look forward to the next one.

  17. I thought the meeting at UT Southwestern was pretty fun and very informative. Although I have no desire to go into the medical field, I was very interesting to learn about the process of medical school. It was cool to learn how rigorous medical school is. If anything, I learned that because of the rigor of the classes, there are only going to be professional, qualified doctors in the field. I felt it was also very interesting to learn about his specific field of study. Again, I have no interest in the field, but it was still cool to learn about it. I will probably be attending the next one in the next six weeks because of how interesting it was.

  18. I found the meeting at UT Southwestern very informative and enjoyable. Since I have an interest in Neuroscience I was very infatuated by the speaker and his commitment to the field. Having someone with such enthusiasm and excitement talk about something they seem to truly enjoy and still enjoy after so many years in school helped motivate me to really consider a future in the medical field. I will most certainly be going back.

  19. I loved getting out the class room and getting to learn about neuroscience from someone that worked in the field. I loved the presentation! I thought it was interesting and informative at the same time. I learned that ice or cooling a severed nerve slows the cooling process and allows time for reattachment. Nerves dont always reconnect properly though! I thought the overall presentation was good enough to make me want to come back again!

  20. It was really interesting learning about neuroscience and how much the scientist had to study and research to get where he is today. He seemed to love what he does for a living and I loved how passionate he was about neurscience. It is really inspiring to see someone young take on a changelle and achieve it in such a cool way. He loved what he does and loved presenting it to us. He was very good at explaining things to us without making us lose focus! I would love to attend another presentation!

  22. After going to the first meeting, I was very excited to attend this one. I knew it was going to be about "drug abuse" or "pharmacist", which both topics interest me very much so I was really looking forward to the meeting. I loved how an actual pharmacist talked to us about what he does and what he had to learn in order to become one. I loved the activities we did at the end where we actually got to physically participate and learn. Overall, I enjoyed the meeting and can’t wait for the next one!

  23. I actually look forward to all of these meetings! I was also very excited about this meeting because it was about substance abuse, and I have looked into substance abuse counseling as a profession. The meeting was about substance abuse, but it was still interesting to hear about his interest in pharmacy and his experiences while in the children's hospital.

  24. I look forward to going to all of these meetings. Like every other meetings, I was very excited to attend this one. It was really interesting learning about nutrition, and what your body needs to function properly and what your body doesn’t need. Nutrition and proper diet are a huge part of my life because I try to eat healthy and keep my diet clean. I loved the examples the speaker brought and how we got to actually see what we were putting into our body. I can’t wait for the next one. I look forward to going to all of these meetings. Like every other meetings

  25. I went to the UTSW session about nutrition with Jenny, Logan, and Ellie. I actually thought it was really insightful because I gained plenty of information about something as simple as food. Also, I thought it was good that the speaker didn't drone on and on about how awful junk food was, she actually mentioned that eating junk food wasn't what is so terrible, it's actually the quantity and the frequency of it along with how it factors in to a balanced diet.

  26. The recent UTSW session was about nutrition, and it was very interesting because it is relatable and easily incorporated into my life. The biggest shock was when she told the truth about low carb diets and how they don't give long term results. I also like how she didn't spend the entire talking about how bad junk food was. She emphasized portion control and junk food in moderation.
