UTSW

Attend one of the UTSW sessions this month either on Monday, November 26 to hear about Clinical Nutrition or on Monday, December 17 to hear from a EMS Paramedic.  Discuss your thoughts about what you learned and what you thought of the experience of attending a medical school seminar.

  1. I was upset that the EMT had to cancel their lecture. I was really looking forward to hearing about the life of a paramedic. However, UTSW had a decent last minute talk put together. I enjoyed hearing the three people talk about scientific research. I was interested into what all it takes to become a scientific researcher and so my questions were all answered. It is so cool that UTSW allows high school kids to become involved in research that could change the world of medicine some day.

  2. I was really looking forward to hearing from the paramedic, but the fact that UTSW had something prepared so last-minute was really impressive. I thought it was interesting that the kids that talked were only juniors in high school when they did such advanced experiments. I don't think that I would ever do that, but it seems like a great experience. If I was interested in becoming a researcher, I would definitely take advantage of this opportunity. Overall, the STARS program seems like a really good program that prepares high schoolers that want to be researchers for their future career.

  3. Even though I was looking forward to hearing a paramedic talk, it was still very informative. The STARS program looked really interesting. If I had known about it my junior year, I would have really liked to apply. Listening to the previous STARS applicants was informative, my favorite was the experiment about what chemical had an effect on the growth of the zebra fish's heart. Then getting to listen Dr. Ravnik was funny. I'm not personally a researcher, but it was interesting to see the medical field from a researcher point of view.
